MeT predicts pleasant weather on Eid-ul-Adha in J&K | KNO

No rains expected, heatwave unlikely; maximum temp settles below normal

Srinagar, Jun 04 (KNO): The weatherman here has predicted pleasant weather conditions on Eid-ul-Adha in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the temperature may rise in the next few days. However, there is no possibility of a heatwave. Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said there is no forecast of any wet weather for the next five days, including three days of Eid-ul-Adha. “A brief spell of rain at isolated pockets cannot be ruled out,” he said, adding that there is no forecast of any large-scale rainfall during the next five days, adding, “There is no Western Disturbance and no major activity during the Eid days." Moreover, the MeT Director said the maximum temperature would rise in the next few days, but there is no possibility of heatwave conditions till Eid-ul-Adha. Pertinently, light rains continued to lash many areas of Kashmir on Wednesday, settling the temperature below normal across Jammu and Kashmir. In Srinagar, the summer capital, the mercury settled at 23.5 degrees Celsius, which is 3.2 degrees Celsius below normal. Gulmarg, a famous ski resort, recorded 4.1 degrees Celsius below normal temperatures, while Pahalgam recorded 7.8 degrees Celsius below normal temperatures. Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir, recorded 2.2 degrees Celsius below normal while Kupwara and Kokernag saw 4.5 and 3.0 degrees Celsius below normal temperature respectively, the data prepared by the Meteorological department (MeT) said. The Jammu division also recorded below normal temperatures on Wednesday, with the lowest recorded in Banihal at 20.7 degrees Celsius, which was 7.1 degrees Celsius below normal. Jammu saw 5.4 degrees Celsius below normal while Katra, Bhaderwah and Batote recorded 5.2 degrees Celsius, 7.4 degrees Celsius and 5.4 degrees Celsius below normal temperature,s respectively—(KNO)
